The soaking in acetone removal of gel polish leaves the nails and the skin dry and dehydrated. What those dry nails need is a good manicure with lots of oil and moisturizer.
Here is a nail after gel polish removal. The nail and the skin are very dry. There is some cuticle stuck on the nail. Ridges are very obvious.
Here is the same nail after a moisturizing manicure with an oil treatment and a light buffing. The cuticle area is cleaned up. The ridges are less noticeable. It looks hydrated and healthy.
Keep your nails in good shape by taking breaks from wearing gel polish.
Use nail/cuticle oil and hand lotion regularly.
Some gel polish brands are easier to remove than others. I find the original Shellac is very easy to remove and, as a result, is less damaging to the nails.
