Heal a Zit Fast!

upstyle for prom or wedding

It never fails you have a special event such as a prom or a wedding and your skin breaks out.

Your hair looks simply amazing but that huge pimple on your chin is not amazing at all! Those nasty zits! So inconvenient and so frustrating.

Whatever you do, DO NOT SQUEEZE!

Squeezing a pimple causes a redness and swelling situation that is impossible to hide with makeup. Squeezing can also force the infection deeper into the skin causing longer healing time.

Let me give you a few beauty treatment tips to help you deal with the unfortunate situation. I also have includes some Amazon Affiliate Links for quick shopping.

How to Heal a Zit Fast!

Clean it
Start by cleaning the broken out area with a cleanser made to treat acne. Next, use a toner formulated for oily skin.

Reduce the Swelling
Apply ice or a cold compress to reduce the swelling and inflammation.

You can also use a cold, wet chamomile tea bag. Put the wet tea bag in the fridge to get it really cold.

Apply the ice, cold compress or tea bag to the broken out area for 10 minutes. Take a 5 minute break and reapply it for another 10 minutes.

Allergy note: If you are allergic to ragweed, you may be allergic to chamomile.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Now, dip a cotton swab in hydrogen peroxide and dab it on the blemish to help kill bacteria. Let it dry.

Spot Treat with a Acne Treatment Product
Next, Apply an acne spot treatment product. Acne spot treatment products contain ingredients to kill bacteria and calm inflammation.

Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid are two popular active ingredients found in acne treatment products.

Salicylic Acid is great for the exfoliation of dead cells, unclogging the pores and reducing inflammation. It is derived from willow bark.

Benzoyl Peroxide is great for killing acne bacteria. Use caution with this ingredient, though. It can bleach your clothes and sheets.

I personally prefer products with salicylic acid products over products with benzoyl peroxide. I find benzoyl peroxide products to be more irritating on sensitive skin. Plus, salicylic acid won't bleach clothes and sheets!

Here are three great effective cruelty free acne spot treatments that contain salicylic acid.

Dr. Dennis Gross Dr x Blemish Solutions Acne Eliminating Gel Salicylic Acid Acne Medication
Murad Blemish Control Rapid Relief Spot Treatment
This is a great treatment to use overnight since it is not invisible. It gets it's blemish fighting power from 2% salicylic acid and it's anti inflammatory effects from allantoin and licorice root

Skyn Iceland
Skyn Iceland Anti Blemish Gel with Willow Bark
This effective product gets it's blemish fighting power from willow bark (salicylic acid) and it's anti inflammatory effects from lily extract and green tea extract. It also contains hydrating ingredients to help prevent flaky skin.

Alba Botanica Acne Dote Maximum Strength Invisible Treatment Gel
Alba Botanica Acne Dote Maximum Strength Invisible Treatment Gel
This bargain acne product gets it's blemish fighting power from 2% salicylic acid and it's anti inflammatory effects from aloe and soothing botanical extracts.

DIY Salicylic Acid Treatment
You can make your own salicylic acid treatment out of aspirin.

Crush an aspirin and add a little water to it to make a paste. Apply it to the blemish and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off and apply a oil free moisturizer. I love Ole Henriksen Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator!

Allergy note: If you are allergic to aspirin, do not use salicylic acid skin care products. Both are derived from willow bark.

Get the Red Out
Acne blemishes can be very red. That redness can be hard to cover with makeup. Use a little Visine to get the red out!

Right before makeup application, apply Visine or other over-the-counter anti redness eye treatment product to a cotton swab. Hold the swab on the blemish for 2-3 minutes. Allow the skin to dry then apply your makeup.

Conceal it
Apply concealer and foundation to hide the zit.

Red, inflamed blemishes can be a bit tricky to hide. Use a yellow or green concealer to cancel out the redness.

You can alway leave your makeup to a pro. Have your makeup professionally done at a salon when you have your hair done.

We know lots of tricks to get you looking picture perfect!

There you have it. A few tips to heal a zit fast and get you looking beautiful for your special event.

I hope this post helps ease your anxiety when a blemish strikes at the worst time!

White Bumps Under Eyes: Milia

Have you noticed that you have little white looking bumps under your eyes? Some people call it chicken skin because the bumps look like plucked chicken skin. 🐔 Most likely those little white bumps are milia. They can feel hard or pearly. These bumps are not acne. Milia can occur when dead skin cells become trapped beneath the outer layer of skin. Keratin becomes trapped and builds up. A small benign cyst can form which is the milia. It's a cyst!?! Don't let that word scare you. They are harmless, but unwanted bumps.  They can occur on any area of the skin that tends to be on the dry side. They cannot be squeezed out like a blackhead or pimple because they have no opening. A layer of skin covers them. A hole must be created in them using a needle, then they can be extracted out. Read more about blackhead, whiteheads and blind pimples This is a common problem for the under-eye area. It is a dry, delicate area of the skin. I see it a lot on my clients. Heavy products

Dermatofibromas

This post is all about dermatofibromas and some remedies to help make them look better and ways hide them. It includes my Amazon Affiliate Links to help you find the products I talk about. Q. I have this brown bump on my leg that won't go away. What can I do about it? A. It could be a dermatofibroma. I see them often on my leg waxing clients. A dermatofibroma is a tan to brown benign raised bump more common in women than men and occur commonly on the legs. The bump feels hard under the skin and can be itchy, tender and easily irritated. A doctor will tell you not to worry about it because it's benign, but it's kind of ugly! Dermatofibromas are also called Benign Fibrous Histiocytomas. They are the result of some sort of injury to the skin such as an ingrown hair or a bug bite.  Be careful when shaving because a dermatofibroma may bleed and become sore if nicked. Don't think you can get rid of it by shaving it off. It will be an awful looking sore and will j
