Folliculitis: Red itchy bumps from shaving

Have you ever had these red itchy bumps on your legs. They look like little pimples.  It could be folliculitis.  What is Folliculitis? It's an infection in the hair follicles. Bacteria is the most common cause of folliculitis.  We all have staphylococcus and other bacteria normally living on our skin causing no trouble at all. But, sometimes the hair follicles become infected causing small pimples that can hurt or itch.   An infection can occur from friction from clothing, an injury to the skin or from shaving, especially with a dirty razor. Most folliculitis outbreaks are minor and clear on their own in a few days. See your doctor if the infection is severe, does not clear or gets worse. Here are some remedies you can try to help it heal. Folliculitis Remedies Anti-bacterial soap Wash with an anti-bacterial soap twice a day to kill the bacteria. A Hairy View from my Beach Chair!

This was my view at the beach on my recent vacation!   Gentlemen: you should not look this way. As my daughter says, "put your shirt on, nobody wants to see that!".  That hairy back can be cleaned up in no time with a little wax! Ladies: if we can bikini wax, the boys can back wax!  Now don't be influenced by that famous waxing scene from The 40 Year Old Virgin. That was far from the reality of a professional waxing experience. Back Waxing Information A back waxing takes about 30-45 minutes and lasts about 3 weeks.  Plan on a once a month waxing. The hair will need to have 1/8" to 1/4" of growth to be pulled out by the wax.  That back hair regrows finer and waxes off easier and easier each time you have it done. Since the hair get finer, the more you wax, the less it hurts. Always avoid sun exposure 24 hours before and after waxing. Sunburned skin cannot be waxed. We have many men who come in for back waxing at the salon and they say it's really w...

Treat a Bee Sting with a Penny

I had a client yesterday who was telling me about her bee sting. A bee stung her on her thumb. She had none of the traditional home remedies, such as baking soda or meat tenderizer, in the house. The thumb was throbbing and swelling. Remembering an article she had read about a penny reliving a bee sting, she taped a penny to the sting.  Guess what?  It worked!  The pain stopped and the thumb shows no evidence of the sting.  Intriguing! Of course, I had to investigate this matter.  Many say it is urban legend however, pennies are made from copper.  Copper peptides are being used in facial creams and serums for healing and anti-aging purposes. Copper is a trace mineral our bodies use to produce healthy cells. This cruelty free copper peptide product from Skin Perfection looks interesting to me. I think I need to try it! Skin Perfection 10% Copper Peptide Hyaluronic Serum The copper increases cell turnover rejuvenating the skin so it looks younger. The hy...
