Q&A: Calm an Allergic Skin Reaction

 Q. I seem to be having an allergic reaction to one of my skin care or makeup products. What should I do?

 A. Stop using the product that is causing the reaction. Sometimes you don't know which product is the problem. In that case, stop using all the products you are using and calm the reaction. To calm the irritation and inflammation,

 1. Use super basic skin care. Use a bland cleanser to wash your skin. Use petroleum jelly or olive oil applied to slightly damp skin to soothe and moisturize.

 2. Wear the bare minimum of makeup. Try using hypoallergenic makeup or mineral makeup that doesn't contain bismuth oxychloride.

3. Speak to a pharmacist or dr. about taking an antihistamine such as Benedryl to calm the reaction.

 4. After the skin is calm, when all the itching, burning, rash and redness are gone, you can try your old products one at a time for a few days to identify the offending product. 

Your skin will react quickly to the allergen. 

It's a good idea to save the ingredient list from the product you reacted to as a reference. If you happen to react to a new product, you can compare that lists to try to identify the ingredient you are allergic to.

White Bumps Under Eyes: Milia

Have you noticed that you have little white looking bumps under your eyes? Some people call it chicken skin because the bumps look like plucked chicken skin. 🐔 Most likely those little white bumps are milia. They can feel hard or pearly. These bumps are not acne.
