Bridal Skin Care Tips

bridal veil
I have been busy this week getting a bride ready for her wedding. We have done a trial on her makeup, some waxing and massaging! Yesterday was facial day so I thought it was the perfect time to post some bridal skin care tips.

Face
Begin your facial regime at least 6 months before your wedding. You will get the most benefit from a professional facial monthly.

At home, all skin types (except for extremely sensitive and rosacea) should be using an exfoliating product and a moisturizer formulated for their skin type.  Exfoliation removes built up dead skin cells that make your skin look dull and can block your pores.  This gives you fresher looking skin and less blackheads and breakouts. Moisturizer protects and hydrates.

Peels that are creams, gels and liquids containing salicylic and  alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) are great for removing dead cells. Use caution using a scrub, however.  The grains in scrubs can scratch the skin and cause irritation.  Be sure to treat your neck and chest as well.  Follow the directions on the package.  Sensitive skin should use mild product once a week.  Tougher skin types can exfoliate twice a week.  More than that may dehydrate your skin.  Your monthly facial at a salon or spa with give you a great exfoliation. Professional products are generally stronger than what you can get for home use.

The week of your wedding facial, should be a gentle exfoliating and hydrating facial with very little or no extractions. Extractions can cause redness which we don't want on wedding day.

Emergency! Pimple!
First, wash the area with an acne cleanser.

Apply ice or a cold, wet chamomile tea bag to reduce swelling.

Apply a salicylic Spot Treatment Cream  spot treatment to the pimple such as Burt's Bees Acne Solutions Maximum Strength or you can use an aspirin. Crush an aspirin, add a little water to make a paste, apply to the blemish, let it sit 10 - 15 minutes and rinse.

Some people say toothpaste applied to a pimple helps dry it up overnight.  Just use a non-whitening toothpaste.  It will be less irritating.

A dermatologist can inject a cyst with cortizone to quickly reduce the swelling.

Just before makeup application, a little Visine gets the red out!  Apply a few drops of Visine to a cotton swab.  Hold the swab on the blemish for a minute. Let the skin dry.  Then, apply concealer and foundation.  Be sure to use powder to set it. Have a makeup artist do your makeup if you are afraid you won't be able to cover it.

Note: Allergic to ragweed? No chamomile!  Allergic to aspirin? No salicylic acid!

Lips

Your lips must look moist and juicy on your wedding day not cracked and peeling!  Mix together the juice from half a lemon and a teaspoon of sugar.  Apply to your lips and let it sit for a minute or two. Gently massage it over your lips then rinse. You can also sprinkle a bit of sugar on a wet toothbrush, then lightly scrub the lips using a circular motion. Exfoliate your lips once or twice a week.  Apply a moisturizing lip balm with an SPF such as Blistex or Aveda Lip Saver after exfoliating and daily.

Hands
Get your hands smooth and moist by exfoliating and moisturizing them too. Use hand cream several times a day and limit contact with water. You would think water contact would hydrate, but too much water washes away natural oils and actually dehydrates the skin.

White Bumps Under Eyes: Milia

Have you noticed that you have little white looking bumps under your eyes? Some people call it chicken skin because the bumps look like plucked chicken skin. 🐔 Most likely those little white bumps are milia. They can feel hard or pearly. These bumps are not acne. Milia can occur when dead skin cells become trapped beneath the outer layer of skin. Keratin becomes trapped and builds up. A small benign cyst can form which is the milia. It's a cyst!?! Don't let that word scare you. They are harmless, but unwanted bumps.  They can occur on any area of the skin that tends to be on the dry side. They cannot be squeezed out like a blackhead or pimple because they have no opening. A layer of skin covers them. A hole must be created in them using a needle, then they can be extracted out. Read more about blackhead, whiteheads and blind pimples This is a common problem for the under-eye area. It is a dry, delicate area of the skin. I see it a lot on my clients. Heavy products

Dermatofibromas

This post is all about dermatofibromas and some remedies to help make them look better and ways hide them. It includes my Amazon Affiliate Links to help you find the products I talk about. Q. I have this brown bump on my leg that won't go away. What can I do about it? A. It could be a dermatofibroma. I see them often on my leg waxing clients. A dermatofibroma is a tan to brown benign raised bump more common in women than men and occur commonly on the legs. The bump feels hard under the skin and can be itchy, tender and easily irritated. A doctor will tell you not to worry about it because it's benign, but it's kind of ugly! Dermatofibromas are also called Benign Fibrous Histiocytomas. They are the result of some sort of injury to the skin such as an ingrown hair or a bug bite.  Be careful when shaving because a dermatofibroma may bleed and become sore if nicked. Don't think you can get rid of it by shaving it off. It will be an awful looking sore and will j
