Goddess Garden Organic Sunscreen Review

I was excited to try Goddess Garden Natural Sunscreen. It's an organic sunscreen that gets high ratings from the Environmental Working Group and I love the name! I like to avoid chemicals on my skin and my daughter's skin (especially chemicals that penetrate through the skin into the blood stream) whenever possible so this organic sunscreen is right up my alley. Plus, my daughter's skin is very sensitive. She has gotten hives and rashes from many sunscreens. 

 Goddess Garden uses non nano titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which means the particles of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in the product are big and don't penetrate through the skin into the body. That's a good thing because small nanoparticles can penetrate the skin and cause damage to the cells in our bodies. Many sunscreens contain nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to prevent the white film that titanium dioxide and zinc oxide leave on the skin.

 I purchased the 6 oz. Everyday SPF 30, $17.99, and the 3.4 oz. Facial SPF 30,$16.99, to take to the beach from a Bed, Bath and Beyond store using a couple of those handy 20% off coupons.

 First day, before we went beach, we broke out the Goddess Garden.

The directions say to shake the tube before using. After shaking, I applied the facial sunscreen to my clean face. It was white and went on thick and was a little difficult to rub in. It left a thin white film that went away in about 5 minutes. The smell was nice but it felt a little sticky. I put thin layer of liquid foundation on top to make sure my face didn't look white. The foundation went on just fine over it and it no longer felt sticky. Did it work? Indeed it did! Not a speck of sunburn on my face. Here are the ingredients:

 The Everyday Sunscreen, Cream Formula

We shook the tube and were surprise when we squeezed out the sunscreen. It was an unexpected gray beige color. It matched the shower tile! The smell was nice, though. We found it very difficult to apply. It clumped up and didn't spread out easily.

It took some serious effort to get it to rub in. I found if I applied it then waited a few minutes it would rub it easier. My guess is that it warm up to body temperature and rubbed in better. It had a sticky feel on the skin that never really went away. My daughter absolutely hated the way it felt! Sand stuck easily to it. But did it work? It sure did! No sunburn and no irritation on her sensitive skin. Here are the ingredients:

 So what do we think? 
I would use the facial formula again for sure. It was a little sticky but worked well and has no bad chemicals in it. The everyday formula, well, we really didn't like the application and the stickiness. I liked that it caused no skin irritation. I would use it again for it's safety and effectiveness but it wouldn't be my first choice of sunscreen. My daughter would not use it again. It was too sticky feeling for her. She did not try the facial formula. I think she would like it better. There other formulas, including a sport formula and a spray everyday formula, that we didn't try. I have read they feel less sticky.

 If you try the Everyday formula, I recommend that you 
apply it, then wait a few minutes, then rub it in.

White Bumps Under Eyes: Milia
