How Long is Makeup Good for | Makeup Brush Cleaning | Keep Makeup Fresh

If you are like me, you have a vast collection of makeup.  The problem with our beloved makeup is, it doesn't stay good forever. Some items actually have a very short shelf life once they have been opened. Opened, used makeup can be vulnerable to bacterial growth even though the product contains preservatives. Mascara is most notorious for having a short shelf life. I'm surprised how many people don't realize this. I had a client come into the salon to have her makeup done. She brought her own mascara for me to use on her. I asked her how old her mascara was. She wasn't sure but said it was at least a couple years old.  In the trash it went!  There was no way I would use possibly contaminated mascara on her. It could cause an eye infection.  Where does mascara contamination come from? Mascara contamination comes from bacteria, fungi, or Demodex mites from your own self that enter the mascara tube each time you apply the mascara. Most mascara contains water that ...

Pantone Color of the Year 2023: Viva Magenta Nail Polish | Lipstick | Fashions

Ahhh, magenta! It had to be one of my favorite, if not the favorite, Crayola crayon colors growing up. Pantone, the fashion industry's go to color matching system, has chosen Viva Magenta 18-1750 as the color of the year for 2023. What color is Magenta? Magenta is a pinkish purplish red. There can be many variations of magenta. Some can be more purple. Some can be more red. Never-the-less, all shades of magenta are mixes of red and blue.  Magenta is a similar color to fuchsia. Fuchsia is more purple than magenta. Magenta is redder than fuchsia just to give you a clearer visual. The Viva Magenta color may not look quite the same color as the Crayola magenta.  I think it is a bit redder than the crayon. Pantone refers to Viva Magenta as a nuanced crimson red tone. It is an empowering, fun, joyful color. Just think of red lipstick and how good you feel wearing it. Bold and confident. We need a strong positive color for 2023 after dealing with the pandemic and all its fallout. Viv...

Another year is in the books. Time to look forward to the start of a fresh new year, make new goals and try to fix some bad habits! I have added some more great products to this post to help you get better skin. A few years ago, in the Philadelphia area, we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow to finish our year. It was quite fitting for the end of the year and the beginning of a new one. It's like a white canvas ready to be painted or a blank page ready to be written on. I always make New Year's resolutions. They are usually the same every year...to be more organized and to make more money! I will use those old resolutions once again and add more this year including better hydration.  Water is so important for our body and skin. I find I drink a lot of water in the summer but not so much in the winter. Time to make a change. There are lots of other easy small changes you can make in your daily routine to improve the look and health of your skin. I have 5 Easy New Year's...
